As part of the Small Tilapia Matters project, with funding from KTN Agrifood Africa Innovation Rounds, we have produced a spreadsheet to help compare tilapia production strategies in tropical cages. This has been based on the findings of Kaminski et al, 2023 with the particular aim of allowing users to compare production strategies that involve some production of smaller fish for more inclusive markets.
The spreadsheet is free to download and use and is accompanied by a PDF manual and set of tutorial videos, although it required a recent version of Microsoft Excel to run. Basic use of the spreadsheet model is straightforward, but results will only be applicable to real-life situations if time is spent entering local data for costs, growth, feed conversion and mortalities etc. It is expected that the spreadsheet will be most useful for training and education environments, supporting extension workers, or to help with planning research trials etc.
