Nha Trang University Seminar on Positive Welfare

The Institute of Aquaculture (IoA) at Nha Trang University report on a seminar on positive welfare in aquaculture it recently hosted with expert consultation from Professor Sunil Kadri:

On February 25, 2025, the Institute of Aquaculture (IoA), Nha Trang University (NTU), successfully hosted the seminar "Positive Welfare in Aquaculture." The event featured a keynote presentation by Professor Dr. Sunil Kadri, a renowned expert in aquatic animal welfare research from Charles Darwin University, Australia. Professor Kadri is also a distinguished consultant for the ongoing fish welfare project at IoA, providing valuable expertise to support the research team’s efforts.

Dr. Vu Trong Dai - Deputy Director of the Institute of Aquaculture and Fisheries, introduced the project on the welfare of yellowfin pompano, led by the research team of the Institute of Aquaculture and Fisheries, Nha Trang University.

Professor Kadri’s visit is part of the research project "Perceptions of Farmed Fish Welfare by Different Stakeholders: A Focus on Marine Fingerlings of Snubnose Pompano (Trachinotus blochii) in Nha Trang, Vietnam - C3-S2-041."This project is conducted by the NTTS research team as part of the "Improving Animal Welfare in Asia" initiative, funded by Open Philanthropy and managed by the University of Stirling, United Kingdom.

In addition to presenting key research findings, the seminar also provided in-depth knowledge on farmed fish welfare. Faculty members, as well as undergraduate and master's students majoring in Aquaculture, actively engaged in discussions on modern approaches to aquatic animal welfare. Through interactive exchanges, Professor Kadri shared best practices and scientific insights, emphasizing the importance of fish welfare in the sustainable development of the aquaculture industry.
