Congratulations to Steph Horn and Arsénio Hilinganye on successfully passing their PhD vivas.
Steph Horn, who was funded by WorldFish and the University of Stirling, completed her PhD thesis titled “Assessing the environmental impacts and nutritional outcomes of tilapia farming in Bangladesh”. She is now working on the Horizon Europe SmartAqua4FuturE (SAFE) project alongside other research projects based around sustainable aquaculture development.
Steph’s external examiner was Prof. Baukje de Roos from the Rowett Institute at the University of Aberdeen (UoA). Prof. de Roos is Chair of the Human Studies Management Committee at the Rowett Institute and is a member of the Senior Management Team of the School of Medicine at UoA.

Arsénio Boaventura Hilinganye's PhD thesis aimed to assess the "SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF THE ARTISANAL FISHERY FOR STAKEHOLDERS IN BENGUELA PROVINCE, ANGOLA", and it was funded by the government of the Republic of Angola. Currently, Arsenio is preparing is return home where he expects to be working in both the academia and with local and international organisations whose aim is to improve the development and sustainability of small-scale fishery and aquaculture industries.
Arsénio´s external examiner was Stefan Gelcich who is an assistant professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica in Chile and a researcher with the Center of Applied Ecology and Sustainability. There he is working on threats and impacts of global drivers on ecosystem services and policies.
