A big congratulations to Simão on winning this prestigious award from the Global Aquaculture Alliance for his work on shrimp maturation without the need for eyestalk ablation.

Simão was one of three finalists who were featured in GAA’s Global Aquaculture Advocate in September and presented on Oct. 8 at GAA’s GOAL 2020 conference, which was held virtually for the first time ever this year. Of the 800 attendees who actively participated in GOAL 2020, about 200 voted with the results announced on 19th October.

Simão recently completed his PhD under the supervision of Professor Dave Little, Dr Andrew Davie and Dr Stefano Carboni at the Institute of Aquaculture, although much of the work was carried out overseas in Central America and Asia with financial support from a range of sponsors including Benchmark Holdings, Labeyrie Fine Foods, Seajoy and SyAqua.
