Global Aquaculture Advocate Interview
Professor David Little was recently interviewed by James Wright for the Global Aquaculture Advocate website and magazine. The interview considers current trends in aquaculture development and issues such as the attention that is now given to farmed animal welfare and how that is changing practices and often perceptions in both Europe and Asia. The importance of domestic markets for Asian aquaculture production is discussed as these have been growing with potential to affect supplies to Western Countries.
As one example, Professor Little traces the history of tilapia development and the way in which government and intergovernment initiatives were interlinked with academic efforts (research and training) until technologies were adopted and further developed by innovators and entrepreneurs and widely spread through rural communities.
The important linkages between academia and industry are particularly highlighted and the role of Universities in leading young people into careers in aquaculture. The full article is accessible here.
