Simao Zacarias is a PhD student from Mozambique working on Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) maturation, welfare and culture project collaborated by Lyons Seafood, Global Aquaculture Alliance and Seajoy Seafood. Eyestalk ablation has become a cause of concern for shrimp farmers, retailers and seafood certifiers, thus he is currently working in Honduras on alternatives to replace eyestalk ablation and evaluate the viability of their offsprings at different culture stage.
